Appointed Republican U.S. Senator from Ohio and the GOP nominee in the Ohio 2026 U.S. Senate Race special election. A fixture of Ohio Republican politics for two decades before his appointment.

  • Born Aug 25, 1967. Ohio House 2001–2009 (Speaker 2005–2009); Ohio Senate 2009–2011.
  • Ohio Secretary of State 2011–2019; Lieutenant Governor 2019–2025 under Mike DeWine.
  • Appointed to the U.S. Senate on Jan 17, 2025 by DeWine to replace JD Vance (who became VP).
  • As Secretary of State he standardized statewide early-voting hours ("easy to vote and hard to cheat"), and defended voter-roll maintenance — criticized by the ACLU of Ohio. His name is on Husted v. A. Philip Randolph Institute (2018), which upheld Ohio's voter-roll purge 5–4.
