Ohio's 1st Congressional District (2026)

A Cincinnati-area U.S. House seat that became a battleground not because voters changed their minds, but because the map changed. Democrat Greg Landsman must now defend a district the 2025 remap tilted toward Republicans.

The setup

  • Democratic incumbent: Greg Landsman (won 2022 vs. Steve Chabot 53–47; won 2024 55–45).
  • New lines: OH-1 shifts to roughly R 54–47, adding redder western Hamilton County and all of deep-red Clinton County. On the new lines, 2024 was Trump 51.6% / Harris 47.5%.
  • Under the old lines the district backed Harris by ~6.5 points and Landsman would have been "Likely Democratic" for 2026.

The stakes

OH-1 is Exhibit A for mid-decade gerrymandering: a comfortable Democratic seat converted to a GOP-leaning one by redrawing, mid-decade, for the rest of the decade.
