Franklin County Court of Common Pleas

The county's trial court of general jurisdiction — felony criminal cases, major civil suits, and, through its divisions, family and estate matters. It is where most consequential local litigation begins.

Key facts

  • Organized into a General Division, a Domestic Relations and Juvenile Division, and a Probate Division. Judges serve 6-year terms and appear on the general-election ballot without party labels (they run in partisan primaries; only the appellate and Supreme Court races carry party labels on the November ballot).
  • 2026 seats up (all Franklin County):
    • General Division (4): Carl Aveni, Andy Miller, David Young, Chris Brown — all Democratic incumbents, all unopposed.
    • Domestic Relations (2): Kelley Gabrielle Boller and Lasheyl N. Stroud (D) — unopposed.
    • Probate (1): the one contested seat — Green (D) vs. Junga (R), open on Judge Jeffrey Mackey's retirement.
  • No Municipal Court seats are on the 2026 ballot (those were last elected in 2025).
