Ohio Senate District 27 2026
An open suburban swing seat — the Akron area's state-Senate battleground. SD-27 covers Portage County plus parts of Geauga and Summit.
The matchup
- Republican: Steve Demetriou, the sitting Ohio House member for HD-35.
- Democratic: Mike Roberto, a former Aurora City Schools superintendent.
- Open seat — Republican Kristina Roegner is term-limited.
- Election: November 3, 2026.
Why it matters
The Ohio Senate is a Republican supermajority, so one seat does not shift control — but SD-27 is a genuinely competitive open seat, and the upper-chamber counterpart to the open House battlegrounds in Summit County. Its Portage/Geauga weight gives Republicans an edge, but the open seat and a credible Democrat keep it in play. The Akron-core Senate seat (SD-28, Casey Weinstein, D) is safe and not up until 2028.
