Hamilton County Board of Commissioners

The three-member elected body that governs Hamilton County — Cincinnati's county, and Ohio's third-largest. Like Franklin and unlike charter-governed Cuyahoga, it uses the standard three-commissioner model.

Key facts

  • Three members, elected countywide to staggered 4-year terms in even years. The board has been all-Democratic since 2018 — a marker of Hamilton's shift from a Republican county to a Democratic-leaning swing county.
  • Commissioners set the county budget and place countywide levies on the ballot, including the human-services and children's-services levies that recur through the decade.
  • On the 2026 ballot: one seat (formerly held by Stephanie Summerow Dumas) — an open, genuinely contested race, Meeka Owens (D) vs. Jonathan Pearson (R). Commissioners Alicia Reece and Denise Driehaus (both D) are not up until 2028.
