Hamilton County Commission 2026

The marquee countywide race in greater Cincinnati — an open seat on the three-member Board of Commissioners in a genuine swing county.

The matchup

  • Democratic: Meeka Owens, a Cincinnati City Council member, who won the Democratic primary with 51.9%, unseating incumbent Stephanie Summerow Dumas (41.0%). The seat is therefore open — no incumbent on the November ballot.
  • Republican: Jonathan Pearson, unopposed in the GOP primary.
  • Election: November 3, 2026.

Why it matters

Hamilton County's board has been all-Democratic since 2018, a marker of the county's blue trend — but Hamilton remains one of Ohio's most closely divided counties, so a well-funded Republican keeps the seat a real contest. Owens is favored, and a win would preserve the Democratic sweep of the board; a Republican pickup would break it.

Unlike the Franklin and Cuyahoga boards, where the commissioner/executive races are effectively decided, this is a countywide seat both parties are actually contesting — one more sign that greater Cincinnati is where Ohio's competitive elections still live.
