The more competitive of the two U.S. House seats covering Cuyahoga County — the suburban-and-exurban counterweight to Cleveland's safe-D OH-11. OH-7 takes in southern and western Cuyahoga plus Medina and Wayne counties.

The matchup

  • Republican: Max Miller (incumbent), first elected in 2022.
  • Democratic: Brian Poindexter, who emerged from an eight-way primary — the largest Democratic field in any Ohio district this cycle.
  • Also on the ballot: certified write-in candidates.
  • Election: November 3, 2026.

State of the race

  • Lean: Cook PVI R+5 — Republican-favored. The 2025 remap made only minor changes to OH-7 while keeping its GOP tilt.
  • The size of the Democratic primary field signals interest, but at R+5 with an incumbent this reads as a reach rather than a top-tier battleground.

Why it matters

OH-7 is where Cuyahoga's Democratic strength runs out — the suburban ring beyond Cleveland's packed core. It is the county's one plausible congressional crossover, though the map keeps it favoring Miller. The genuine Northeast Ohio battlegrounds sit outside Cuyahoga: OH-9 (Kaptur) and OH-13 (Sykes).
