An open suburban swing seat — greater Cincinnati's genuine state-Senate battleground. SD-7 spans Warren County, part of Butler County, and eastern Hamilton County (Blue Ash, Springdale).

The matchup

  • Republican: Zac Haines, who won the May 2026 GOP primary decisively.
  • Democratic: Cara Jacob, unopposed in the Democratic primary.
  • Open seat — Republican Steve Wilson is term-limited.
  • Election: November 3, 2026.

Why it matters

The Ohio Senate is a Republican supermajority, so one seat does not shift control — but SD-7 is one of the few Senate districts where the parties genuinely compete. It is the upper-chamber counterpart to the suburban House battlegrounds and, like them, a test of whether Democrats can win the fast-growing Cincinnati exurbs. Cincinnati's other Senate seat, SD-9 (Catherine Ingram, D), is safely Democratic — the core, not the frontier.
