Montgomery County Board of Commissioners
The three-member elected body that governs Montgomery County — Dayton's county. Like Franklin and Hamilton, it uses the standard three-commissioner model.
Key facts
- Three members, elected countywide to staggered 4-year terms. Montgomery is a genuine swing county — Democratic Dayton against Republican suburbs and townships — so control of the board is contested in a way it is not in the safe-Democratic big-city counties.
- The board places the county's consolidated Human Services Levy — which funds developmental disabilities, children's services, mental health (ADAMHS), public health, and senior services in a single measure (renewed November 2025).
- On the 2026 ballot: one seat — Carolyn Rice (D) vs. Margie Christie (R) vs. an independent, a real contest. The other two seats are on the 2028 cycle.
Connections
- The one competitive big-city county board in this sweep — the exception to the safe boards in Cuyahoga, Franklin, and Lucas counties. Elections are run by the county Board of Elections; see Election Administration in Ohio. Part of Dayton 2026 Elections.
